Taking care of business

We have grown at one of the most rapid rates of any township in Ohio and I have played a critical part in managing that growth. This includes meeting the challenges and working collaboratively with other agencies to upgrade roadway infrastructure, keeping up with providing ever-increasing community services including first responders for fire and police services, roadway maintenance and the administrative services needed to support these services

Key accomplishments over the past 4 years

I have played an integral role in achieving the following:

Collaborated with others to promote our township and played an integral role in the formation of:

  • Union County and Jerome Township Cooperative Board
  • Tax Incremental Finance agreements (TIFs) to promote infrastructure development and make schools whole
  • Cooperative Economic Development Agreement (CEDA) and Joint Economic Development District (JEDD) with Marysville

I have also:

  • Worked with County Engineer and ODOT for roadway upgrades including–
    • Mitchell DeWitt roundabout
    • Rt 33/161 interchange
    • Rt 42/Ind Pkwy intersection
    • Warner Road Signal
    • Houchard Road Extension
    • Resurfacing of worn-out roadways.

Upgraded staffing including new Township Administrator, Assistant Zoning Inspector, Battalion Chief, Firefighters and Road Crew.

Supported the Fire Department – New Fire Station 211, Fire Truck, Tanker Truck and Ladder Truck.

Approved Union County Sheriff Department Public Safety Officers contract and allocated overtime for increased traffic control patrols.

Worked with the Township Fiscal Officer to finance the new Road Department building utilizing bond funding.

Managed growth by limiting numbers of new residential planned developments approved while encouraging responsible new business development.

Advocated for lower density residential development to protect the Big Darby Creek watershed in the updated Comprehensive Plan.

Upgraded Trails and Parks–fishing dock, playground equipment, 38 acres of donated woodlands, walking trails at Harry Wolfe Park, Ohio Department of Natural Resources pond management, Master Planning with Union County Trails and Bikeways and Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission Parks and Cemeteries. See MORPC report at Parks and Cemeteries Study Approved | News | Jerome Township, OH

Improved communications with residents with new signage at parks and cemeteries, upgrade of the website, live streaming of Board meetings, new LED events sign to be installed this fall.

Responded quickly to concerns of both residents and businesses and continue to work to help resolve issues about traffic, economic development, public safety, HOAs not fulfilling their obligations, transient vendor resolution, nuisance complaints (including noise and lighting from data centers) to help manage current challenges and plan for future development.

Managed expenditures in a fiscally conservative manner to deliver balanced budgets.

Over the past 4 years I have taken care of business representing both the residents and companies in Jerome Township and look forward to continuing to work on new ideas and also challenges.

Voting Record Highlights

Voted against:

  • Curry Farms Consent Decree
  • RaceTrac rezoning for a Truck Stop that was passed as a service station
  • Requiring property owners to sign a DTE over to the township for any rezoning of properties to commercial use
  • Higher density senior residential patio homes on property adjacent to the center of Jerome Village

Proposed:

  • Noise control resolution
  • Rezoning text to allow for cannabis sales as a conditional use in the Regional Retail District
  • Upgrading microphones to wireless equipment to improve live streaming audio at Board meetings
  • Sending notification letters to all adjacent property owners to alert them about a public hearing for a proposed overlay for the Innovation Planned District 2.
    • (This was eventually rejected because the two other Trustees were not willing to make the recommended changes for better landscape buffering, setbacks, building height restrictions and elimination of higher density residential.)

My voting record has shown a commitment to represent the best interests of our township residents and businesses, and to promote our public safety and well-being.
